Harvington Hall

The iconic Royal Museums Greenwich entrusted us to digitise their estate, delivering cutting-edge BIM solutions that improved building operations and management with precise digital models and comprehensive survey information.

Challenge

Harvington Hall, a moated Elizabethan manor steeped in history, posed distinct challenges due to its intricate architecture and nationally significant heritage. The hall’s complex network of priest holes, engineered for concealment during religious persecution, required exceptional modelling accuracy to support restoration and conservation.

Capturing the full 18-acre estate and integrating landscape features into a unified digital model added further complexity. This demanded advanced surveying methods and precise digital reconstruction to ensure historical integrity and project success.

Solution

Parametrix carried out a comprehensive drone survey to capture high-resolution photogrammetry data across the entire site. For the Hall’s intricate architecture, including its concealed priest holes, we used advanced parametric modelling techniques to achieve detail beyond standard BIM capabilities.

The result was a highly accurate as-built model, essential for precise restoration planning. To maintain public engagement during renovations, immersive virtual tours, produced by ScanTech Digital, provided continued access to the Hall's unique heritage.

Outcome

The project culminated in a detailed digital replica of Harvington Hall and its surrounding landscape, providing a vital foundation for restoration and long-term conservation planning. The as-built model enabled accurate intervention strategies while safeguarding the Hall’s architectural integrity.

Virtual tours kept the public engaged throughout the closure, ensuring continued access to the site's rich history. Parametrix’s forward-thinking approach set a new standard for how digital technology can enhance and protect heritage environments.
