Parametrix collaborated with Orbit Group to transform their building safety management, leveraging innovative technology and structured data processes to meet evolving legislation and enhance resident safety.
Orbit Group faced significant challenges across a series of high-rise residential blocks with limited building information and outdated documentation. Many properties contained combustible materials requiring urgent replacement, alongside ageing MEP systems that were prone to frequent failure.
Access restrictions in occupied homes made data collection and compliance planning even more complex. With evolving legislation under the Building Safety Act, Orbit needed clarity, structure, and a path forward for managing risk across their portfolio.

Through detailed consultancy and advanced surveying, we helped Orbit Group digitise 41 buildings and establish a strong foundation for long-term asset management. We applied the UK Housing Data Standard, developed clear information requirements, and created rich multidisciplinary models covering architecture, MEP, structure, and external environments.
A robust Common Data Environment was set up to support software integration and portfolio-wide collaboration. The project delivered a full “Golden Thread” of building information, enabling smarter decarbonisation planning, refurbishment sequencing, and long-term investment decisions

The project’s success earned Parametrix and Orbit Group three major industry awards, including Most Innovative Property Service and Building Safety Initiative of the Year in 2023. Our structured Scan-to-BIM process ensured safety compliance while creating a clear path for decarbonisation and long-term asset optimisation.
The scalable approach is now being rolled out to Orbit’s extra care facilities, proving the value of structured data in social housing management. Despite access challenges and legacy technology, the project marked a pivotal step in Orbit’s commitment to safer, smarter housing.
