Parametrix utilised Scan-to-BIM technology to streamline event planning and stage design at The Hub, ensuring efficient space utilisation for the Edinburgh International Festival.
The Hub, located on Edinburgh’s Royal Mile and part of a UNESCO World Heritage Site, posed a significant challenge due to its dual function as a protected heritage building and a high-traffic cultural venue. As a venue of the Edinburgh International Festival, it operates under intense time pressures, with minimal turnaround between event planning, set design, and installation.
Navigating these logistical demands within a historically sensitive and architecturally complex space required exceptional care. Maximising spatial efficiency while preserving the integrity of this iconic landmark demanded a highly accurate and responsive digital approach.

The Scan-to-BIM model and our consultancy played a crucial role in helping the Edinburgh International Festival team optimise space usage within The Hub. It enabled rapid planning and seamless execution of stage design, set installations, and event layouts.
The accurate 3D replica allowed for detailed pre-event coordination, reducing on-site guesswork and installation time. Virtual design testing helped the team adapt quickly, minimising delays and ensuring smooth event delivery in a logistically demanding environment.

This project showcased the powerful role digital technology can play in enhancing heritage and cultural venues. By enabling advance visualisation and planning of stage designs, the Scan-to-BIM model significantly reduced setup time and improved operational efficiency.
These efficiencies contributed directly to the smooth delivery of the Edinburgh International Festival. Our work at The Hub set a new standard for applying Scan-to-BIM in cultural and theatrical event management.
